I do not question the memories because there is no way to verify–I trust myself enough to live with the uncertainty.

Often my drawings start with a montage of smaller-scaled sculptures. Here is the latest series–drawings are still in process. These works show the transition years of 11-17: from play to make-up; parents/grandparents aging, what is a doll versus an action figure; games; heroes and heroines; the spaces where I was allowed to play (beach) and not allowed (living room) and the affects of it all.

Since first reading of the Huasteca Female Ballplayer in April this year, I’ve focused my practice on the research and image making of an imagined Female BallPlayer. As a female who started playing soccer at age five—I’ve admired and followed, and considered myself a female ballplayer. So this work is particularly personal, and currently political and relevant for so many female ball players.
